A.  Our adoption fees vary, but normally range between $500. and $1,900.
These fees help offset the many expenses that we incur for the horses brought
into the rescue including, but not limited to veterinary care, farrier care, dental work,
worming, etc…RERSI is an ALL volunteer organization with no paid staff.  All of the
money from the adoption fee goes directly into the care of our rescued horses.

A.  Yes, RERSI adopts to the MD, VA, PA, DC, NJ, NY, and DE areas.
We prefer not to adopt more than 5 hours away. This is to help
 ensure our horses
safety once they leave RERSI, in the event that a horse needs to come back,
or is not being cared for in the proper manner, we can get the horse back into
rescue as soon as possible.

A.  Yes, We judge each situation individually, mostly we are concerned
that the horse has some type of shelter and safe fencing.

A.  We rescue all types of horses. Our area has a lot of thoroughbreds in need,
so chances are we will have lots of ottbs (off the track thoroughbreds).
We also get ponies, and can even on occasion be found with mules or donkeys.
If you have a certain type of horse that you are looking for, please let us
know and we'll keep an eye out for you!

A.  Yes, if the horse is well matched with the adopter, they pass their references,
and plan to work with a trainer.

A.  RERSI horses can be ridden and tested on our farm. We offer a prorated portion
of the adoption fee back in case the horse must be returned.

A.  At RERSI we offer a full refund for a 30 day trial period. We may at our discretion,
offer a prorated refund after the trial period is up, but encourage that the horse be
donated back to RERSI. We hope that you understand that once an animal
is adopted, we use that adoption fee to pay for the expenses of incoming rescues
.

We encourage that all RERSI adopted horses be returned to RERSI. However,
if the horse sold to an outside party and not returned to RERSI directly, we ask to
be notified first, and ask for the new owners information.
We do this so that we can
keep track of our horses and ensure that they remain safe for the rest of their lives.

The adopter, will be responsible for shipping costs
associated with returning the horse.

A.  We are a rescue organization and don't particularly advocate the breeding of
rescued horses, but once our horses are adopted they no longer belong to us and
may be bred if the owner wishes.

A.  Slim to none. Our horses are all vet checked and vaccinated.
We also quarantine them for the appropriate amount of time before
exposing them to the other rescues. We never adopt a horse out until it has
been checked over and worked with for a standard period of at least one month,
it usually ends up being several.

Q.  I want to adopt, but I am not quite ready to for the horse, what can I do?

A.  In the event that a horse is adopted from RERSI, but cannot move to
it's new home immediately, it may be boarded at RERSI for a reasonable period
of time. We have a boarding agreement, and the required donation for boarding
the adopted horse is $150.00 per month which includes worming and feeding.
If the horse needs farrier or veterinary care the adopter will be billed separately.

Q.  I don't have the means to transport a horse, what can I do?

A.  We are happy to deliver adopted horses to their new homes.
Unfortunately due to the unpredictability of the cost of fuel, our rates are
subject to change. The standard donation fee equals whatever the trip costs
us in gas, plus $10. per hour for our driving time each way.
